A LITTLE SOMETHING IN THE MAKING

I thought I should provide a little background info on the things I've been working on the last couple years so to set the tone of the blog and a mission statement of sorts. I've always wanted to own my own home furnishings store--nothing over the top just a simple operation I can call my own. In my head it's very loft-like with so many different styles from all over the world--which in my head I obviously travel and discover. In my head I also ride a Vespa to my hypothetical store with a long scarf that peaks out of my helmet... but that's another story all together.

Of course, it takes an incredible amount of experience, resources and funding, not to mention a relatively stable economy. All of which take time to develop. The last couple years I've been doing just that so I like to say I'm in the developing stage. I'm 26 so the goal is to have everything pulled together for a smashing grand opening by 30, which I feel is a very conservative time frame. From time to time I practice the toast I want to make to all the people who have helped me reach my dream.

By blogging about my progress I hope to keep myself moving forward and thinking out loud. Persistence has paid off. For the longest time I was buying and selling anything (furniture, art, accessories, ect.) I could find online. I was using my apartment as a storage/selling space as well which was less than ideal. I kept trying to find ways to store my inventory and for so long felt this was my biggest hurdle. I went through periods where I would stop buying all together because I couldn't stand the thought of cluttering up my home. I was embarrassed to have anyone over because I knew they wouldn't understand what I was doing.

It wasn't until I met Mike McMahon, the owner of Horizon Home that things turned around. I met Mike while killing time wondering through his enormous store in Midtown West. I had locked my keys in my car and was waiting on AAA to rescue me. Mike and I struck up a conversation and before I left I had made a friend and met a mentor. Mike offered me a space in the back of his store to display my inventory. All of a sudden I had jumped the hurdle.

This weekend white panels are going up to create a defined space where I will begin to create my first "store". I've learned you can't guess or imagine exactly how solutions are going to appear you just have to have the eyes to see them. I'll post pics of the progress as the faux walls go up! YAH....Thank You Mike!
